Ten things that you probably did not know about Nelson Mandela

'Middag Quacks.   We all  have that one quack who is into all sort of conspiracy theories: from the Jay Z and the Illuminati to the long disproven theory that politicians in South Africa have brains. While waddling around the internet, I came across this post- containing 10 facts you probably did not know about Nelson Mandela: Interesting read. An no, he himself was not part of the Illuminati and no, he not die in prision only to be replaced by an impersonator as some people have suggested.





1. Mandela's tribal nickname 'Rolihlahla' means...'Troublemaker'.

2.Mandela was expelled from University after a year for staging a strike.

3.The United Nations decreed his birthday as Mandela day.

4.'Madiba' is his Xhosa clan name.

5. Mandela’s father had four wives, and Nelson is one of 13 children. 

6. Mandela has received more than 250 awards for his accomplishments.  

7. Stevie Wonder dedicated his 1985 Oscar for “I Just Called to Say I Love You” to Mandela. (The Apartheid government subsequently banned the song and the song was only officially rereleased into South Africa, post 1994)  

8. Mandela outlived his two oldest sons.  

9. Mandela ran away from home at age of 19 (after his gaurdian tried to arrange a marriage for him)- and took up a job as a nightwatchmen on the premises of crown mines.

10. Mandela spent his first night after being freed from prison in Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu’s home.

(Another fact: Mandela decided to take a pay cut when he stepped into his office- he felt that the presidential salary was too high)
